Short answer: If rain washes out our normal Saturday route, 2 Brothers Lawn Care moves the cut to a late weekday afternoon and lets the customer know in advance. We do not treat weather as a reason to skip a paid cut. The exact make-up time depends on when the lawn becomes firm and safe enough to service.
Why not mow immediately after heavy rain?
Soft soil can rut and compact
A mower is much heavier than a person. When soil is saturated, wheels can sink, leave tracks and compress the root zone. The damage can last far longer than the delay.
Wet grass does not cut cleanly
Wet blades bend and stick together. The mower may tear or miss grass, while clippings collect in heavy clumps. Those piles can smother the turf beneath them and make an otherwise healthy lawn look uneven.
Slopes and hard surfaces become less safe
Wet grades, roots, wooden gates and paved transitions can be slippery. A responsible crew weighs the condition of the entire property, not just whether the rain has stopped.
How our rain-delay process works
Why a multi-day storm can extend the delay
Sunshine after rain does not instantly dry the soil. Shaded yards, clay-heavy ground and low spots may remain soft after exposed areas look ready. If repeated storms affect several route days, make-up work must also be sequenced safely. We communicate rather than promise a time the lawn cannot support.
What homeowners can do before the make-up visit
- Keep gates accessible and let us know about a changed lock or access code.
- Bring in toys, hoses and lightweight furniture once conditions are dry enough to walk on.
- Pick up after pets and keep animals indoors while equipment is operating.
- Avoid watering before the rescheduled visit.
- Tell us about a soft drainage area that may not be obvious from the street.
What if the grass gets long?
After an extended delay, cutting straight back to the normal height could remove too much of the blade. We may use a higher setting and protect the turf rather than scalp it for a one-day appearance. The goal is a clean lawn that remains healthy after the truck leaves.
Know the policy before you hire
Ask any lawn company whether rain causes cancellation, a skipped visit or a reschedule. Also ask how notice is provided and whether you are charged for a cut that never occurs. Our answer is simple: rain changes the day, not the commitment.
